The Book of Revelation

Bible Study of the Living Word

8And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. 9And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter (Rev. 10:8–10, KJV).

The voice from Heaven told John to take the open book from Jesus. The Lord then told John to … Take it and eat it. He told his servant John that when he ate the book, it would taste sweet like honey, but it would seem bitter.

Bible Study of God’s Word

John revealed a picture of OT prophets who ate the Word of God in a type of Bible study. The Almighty told Ezekiel to eat a scroll and then go speak to the house of Israel. The scroll was full of lamentation, mourning, and woe (Ezek. 2:9–3:3). Ezekiel took the scroll from God and filled his stomach with it. He didn’t just nibble on the scroll or Word of God: he consumed it completely. Like John’s scroll, Ezekiel’s scroll tasted as sweet as honey in his mouth. Later the Spirit sent Ezekiel to speak the Word to the people of Israel. He went in bitterness and with anger in his spirit (Ezek. 3:14).

The Word of God tastes sweet when people hear it. The Bible says that the Word tastes sweeter than honey (Ps. 119:103). When Jesus rides the white horse and proclaims the Gospel to his church, it tastes sweet like honey. Then the red and the black horses follow the Word of God. For some, persecution turns their stomach bitter.

Jesus says that when persecution comes, many will turn away from the faith (Matt. 24:10). A Christian should fill his mind, body, and spirit with the Word and not nibble on it. The Gospel helps to hold men and women near their faith when troubles come....

Bible View of God's Church

Walking through Revelation, helps us look at the universal Christian Church from the Creator’s spiritual viewpoint. Jesus shows us, through John’s vision, how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit see the Church.

The Godhead watches the Church oppressed by dark spiritual forces, and yet the Church walks in victory. They see the members of the Church stained by sin, and yet purified by the blood of Jesus Christ. They watch the present and future Church harassed by world values, and yet blessed and redeemed for God’s purpose.

The Church of Jesus Christ will persevere by the power of the Holy Spirit and Bible study. Our timeless and Sovereign God will fulfill his Word and his promises to his children. The Revelation of Jesus Christ gives God’s people hope and blessings throughout the Gospel Age.

The Book of Revelation helps us give praise and worship the Almighty God. It's Bible study provides us a picture of the grandeur and majesty of the Lord on his Throne. We see a God who’s timeless and never changes. We see a Savior who loves each of us beyond our understanding. We see a God who gives us the gift of life that will last forever.
