Moses Constructed the OT
Tabernacle for Jehovah God

Moses and many prophets in the Bible experienced a vision of the living God on his Throne. Jehovah told Moses to construct a Tabernacle for the Lord to dwell in. The finished Temple was similar to the visions that John, Ezekiel, and Moses saw.

²And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. ³And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald (Rev. 4:2, 3, KJV).

Jehovah on His Throne

John looked; then suddenly … behold, a throne was set in heaven. John saw the Almighty God, sitting on his Throne, in the spiritual center of the universe. Paul saw this God, Ezekiel saw this God, Isaiah saw this God, and Moses saw this same God. All through history, the unchanging God has revealed himself to his prophets.

²⁶Above the expanse over their heads was what looked like a throne of sapphire, and high above on the throne was a figure like that of a man. ²⁷I saw that from what appeared to be his waist up he looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down he looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded him. ²⁸Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. When I saw it, I fell face down, and I heard the voice of one speaking (Ezek. 1:26–28, NIV).

The prophet Ezekiel saw a vision similar to the one that John saw. The Almighty God brought Ezekiel near his Throne. Ezekiel fell on his face because of the awesome holiness of the Lord. Ezekiel felt, saw, and experienced the power and the Majesty of God. The Lord touched Ezekiel’s spirit, mind, and emotions. Ezekiel experienced the timeless and changeless I Am.

Temple of God

John … was in the spirit when God took him to Heaven. We do not know whether the Holy Spirit took John’s physical body or only took his spirit; still, John traveled there! John enjoyed the same Holy of Holies that Moses did when he went into the thick cloud of God on the top of Mount Sinai (Exod. 19 and 24).

¹⁷And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. ¹⁸And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights (Exod. 24:17, 18, KJV).

God then told Moses to build a Sanctuary so that he could dwell among them (Exod. 25:8–9). Moses used skilled craftsmen to construct a model of the Sanctuary in Heaven. When we study the OT Sanctuary, this helps us understand God’s Throne.

Tabernacle of OT

Moses built the Sanctuary inside a tent that contained two compartments (Exod. 25:10–21). A thick woven veil separated the Holy of Holies and the Holy Place in the tent. The Ark of the Testimony stood in the Holy of Holies. The Ark contained the two stone tablets of the Ten Commandments.

The mercy seat, made out of a pure gold, rested on top the Ark of the Testimony. A Pair of cherubim stretched their wings over the top of the mercy seat. The Almighty God hovered above the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies. Moses met and spoke with the Creator in the Holy of Holies (Exod. 25:22).

Moses built a beautiful Sanctuary from the finest materials. They made the Sanctuary as perfect as skilled craftsmen could produce, and yet it was only a copy of the genuine Temple of God.

Our Father used the OT Tabernacle to begin drawing his people back to him. He forgave their sins through the sacrifice of animals. This pointed toward the coming Messiah.
