14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld
his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and
truth (John 1:14, KJV).
The Lamb Reigns
The second vision of the Throne, the Lamb, and the seals
continued into chapter 6. John witnessed the slain Lamb returning to the
Throne of his Father. The Eternal God invited Jesus Christ, Savior of
the World, to sit at his right hand on the Throne. The Almighty gave
Christ all power and all authority in the heavens and on the earth (Col.
1:18). The Lamb began his reign by the Power of the Throne.
The Lamb takes the
scroll from his Father and opens the first seal. Each seal gives us a
different picture of the Christian Church during the Gospel Age.
1And I saw when the Lamb opened one
of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the
four beasts saying, Come and see. 2And I saw, and behold a
white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given
unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer (Rev. 6:1, 2,
KJV).
The White Horse
John watches the Lamb open the first seal of Revelation. He hears one of the
four cherubim thunder … Come and
see. The living beast calls forth the first of four horsemen who
ride from the seals. Out comes a rider on a white horse. Jesus Christ
rides the white horse as he proclaims the Gospel throughout the world!
Some believe that the
white horse represents the Antichrist, but the symbolism does not point
that way. The white color (leukos)
always symbolizes holiness, purity, and righteousness.[i]
It never points toward Satan or his kingdom. John uses the same white
color in the Apocalypse for the robes worn by the saints, for the hair
of our Lord, and the horse that the Word of God rode (7:13, 1:14, and
19:11).

The rider wore a … crown given to him by his Father. The crown (stephanos) symbolized “royalty and victory.”[ii]
The word often denoted a garland that circled the head by twisting or
twining. Jesus, on the night he was crucified, wore a crown (stephanos) of thorns twisted around his head (Mark. 15:17).
This crown in the NT refers to the believer’s crown of life,
crown of glory, or the crown that Jesus Christ wears.14
In Revelation, the dragon and the beast wear different crowns (diadema),
meaning “a kingly ornament.”[iii]
Jesus Overcomes
Jesus the King of Glory rides the white horse from the first seal
… conquering, and to conquer. You could ask, “Why would Jesus go out
conquering?” To answer that, we need to understand what the word
conquering means.
They only translate
the word nikao as
“conquer” in this verse.[iv]
In the other twenty-seven verses of the NT, nikao
means “to overcome, to prevail, or to win the victory.” Jesus Christ
leads his saints in ministry to overcome the world, to prevail against
the forces of darkness, and to win the victory of eternal life.
Password Given by Jesus for Salvation
We saw John weep in chapter 5 because no man was found worthy to
open the seals. Man’s nature decayed from sin: no one was worthy to
save mankind. Man needed a Savior, and God needed a way to proclaim the
Gospel. The Holy Lamb rose from death and broke the bondage of sin. This
cleared the way for him to mount that white horse and ride. Hallelujah
to the Lamb! Ride on, Ride on!
The rider on the white
horse holds … a bow (toxon), used only once in the Bible.[v]
The word toxon comes from the
base word tikto, which means
“to bring forth, to bear, to produce fruit from the seed, or to give
birth.”[vi]
1Listen to me, you islands; hear
this, you distant nations: Before I was born the LORD called me; from my
birth he has made mention of my name. 2He made my mouth like
a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into
a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver (Isa. 49:1, 2, NIV).
In this prophecy from
Revelation, Isaiah refers to the coming Redeemer and Holy One of Israel (Isa. 49:6,
7). The verse above speaks of our Savior as a polished arrow. The first
seal gives us a picture of Jesus Christ riding a white horse and holding
a (toxon) to bring forth his
Church. The Lord sends out arrows of the Holy Spirit and uses them to
draw people to himself.
